San Jose Del Cabo (Mexico) 2017 | TRAVEL
My friend and I have been talking about travelling together since about a week into our friendship a year and a half ago. We both love to explore and discover new places and have a sense of wanderlust ingrained into our brains. So after a couple glasses of wine (and when I say glasses I mean bottles), I accidentally purchased a trip to Los Cabos instead of getting the quote I originally thought I was. Without any research or forethought it appeared that we were off to Mexico solely based on the fact that the resort had five bars. To be completely honest, I didn't even know if we were headed to the Pacific or Caribbean side until the inflight map showed us our destination. In the end those two cheap 10 dollar bottles of wine cost us a helluva lot.
After a quick layover in Calgary where we slammed a few caesars to get our fix before a Clamato drought was sure to hit after crossing over the Canadian border, we were flying high and giddy as hell.
I think you discover a lot about yourself when you travel - the things that make you tick, freak out, or cause you no worry at all. After about 30 minutes at the carousel awaiting our luggage it clued in that it wasn't coming. Neither was about 15 other peoples (including a very anxious bride - the poor thing). My friend was a tad irate and not impressed at all by the situation. Now don't get me wrong, neither was I - who wants to lose their luggage? But I was surprised to find myself relatively nonchalant. I consider myself an anxious person, an 'afraid of change' type, yet there I was just happy to be under the blue Mexican sky and ready for a cervesa. The rest could wait and really who needs clothes on the beach anyways? Of course I started to worry a little more when I realized my meds were in my bag, but besides that I couldn't believe how calm I was. The airline rep spoke little English and seemed just as confused by the lost luggage as we were so after we filed a form, we figured we better call WestJet directly and figure out what was going on once we got to our resort.
Once we settled in to the Holiday Inn resort and had a few drinks (how could we not at an all inclusive), my friend called the airline. At first it sounded like it would take four days (WestJet doesn't fly down there as frequently this time of year), but with her friendly and firm tone, they decided to find another airline to send the baggage down with. With that all sorted, we headed to find some food as we were famished.
You have no idea how fast time flies until you are somewhere you don't want to leave. 11 blissful days went by in the blink of an eye. Sun soaked hours filled with margaritas, quesadillas, and a lot of SPF disappeared in a heart beat. On about the third day we were already looking up locations for our next adventure.
The highlight of the of the trip was an excursion we took during our first week. A shuttle picked us up in the morning and took us into Cabo San Lucas - the larger city of the two main capes. We got to do a tequila tasting, ride a glass bottom boat to see Los Archos, Lovers and Divorce Beach, a sea lion colony, and the gateway to the pacific before jumping on a different catamaran where we were fed, plied with copious amounts of booze, and taken to a beautiful area to snorkel. I love the water and always have. I have a feeling I used to be a mermaid in a past life because there is something about the sea that makes me feel at home. One of our guides jumped into a little row boat and started throwing bread in our direction as we swam. The fish kept hitting us as they fought for the food - I don't think I've screamed or laughed that hard in a long time. Their creepy little bodies gave us quite the shock as the bashed into our chests. Eight hours later, and after a tequila shot with the same guide before mentioned, we were headed back to our resort - tired and I am sad to say, sun burnt despite replying three times (that is what you get for being a pasty assed ginger girl).
Besides one unfortunate day trip spent with an obnoxious US marine (he wouldn't shut the hell up and decided that everyone needed to hear his tales), the trip was a glowing success. Upon arrival back in Victoria I was hit with the usual post-vacation blues. I am ready for another adventure - to somewhere new and exciting. With luck, it'll be in the autumn at the latest.

| Oh my god how did I not mention this? A HUGE crispy cheese roll. One of the best things I have ever eaten and the reason I gained 10 pounds. |
